Most families don’t plan for home care and a caregiver. Not until they have to. It starts quietly: a few missed meals, a fall that could’ve been worse, the feeling that something’s just off. Or maybe everything changes in a moment a hospital stay turns into a rehab stay, and before you know it, you’re trying to figure out how to bring them home safely and with the care they truly need. The way we understand when your dad just needs a little silence before lunch. Our caregivers aren’t just trained they’re called to this work. They show up with deep compassion, steady hands, and a kind of presence that feels like family. And if you’re here, trying to figure out the next right step, just know you’re not alone. Aggie's Legacy
A Company Founded on Personal Experience

When my wife Kim received the devastating news that her mother, Aggie, was diagnosed with cancer, our family was in absolute shock. Like many daughters, Kim became the primary caregiver to my mother-in-law. While incredibly challenging, taking care for an elderly parent was immensely rewarding. Over time, as Aggie’s care needs grew, Kim and I quickly realized we couldn’t do everything she required because we lacked the skills to provide full-time advanced care. When we started to feel stressed, anxious, and overwhelmed, that’s when we realized we needed professional help. Fortunately, we were able to find compassionate and caring home health aides to help with Aggie’s basic daily needs. This practical relief from caregiving gave Kim the space she needed to be her mother’s daughter, spending quality time with her during her last few months. Our inspiration for starting a home care agency was my mother-in-law Aggie. We realized there were thousands of families just like ours–just like yours–who were struggling with taking care of an elderly loved one.

We understand that trusting a stranger with the care of an elderly parent isn’t an easy decision it certainly wasn’t for us. The challenges families face when choosing a reliable home care provider can be overwhelming, frustrating, and stressful. While a private duty caregiver cannot replace a family member, you can rest assured that we’ll be a reliable partner in ensuring your loved one’s wellbeing and quality of life. At Assisting Hands Home Care Cincinnati, we strive to add life to the later years of our clients. For us, in-home care is very personal, driven by a sense of purpose that our clients deserve to live happier, healthier, and independent lives in the comfort and familiar surroundings of home. You can enjoy peace of mind knowing Mom or Dad is in compassionate, competent, & trusted hands.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the most common home care service in Cincinnati?

Personal care, companionship, and help with daily living tasks are the most common home care services available in Cincinnati. Organizations such as Assisting Hands Home Care Cincinnati assist with light housekeeping, bathing, grooming, meal preparation, medication reminders, transportation, and more. This support enables seniors to remain safe and independent at home. Specialized care such as dementia support, respite care, and 24-hour help is also prevalent. Offering adaptable care schedules from a few hours a week to full-time support, this range of services meets the different needs of the citys aging population.

What are four types of caregivers?

There are four main types of caregivers, each offering different levels of support depending on the needs of the individual:

  1. Family caregivers – These are relatives or friends who provide unpaid care to a loved one. Many Cincinnati caregivers are family members who step in to help aging parents or relatives with daily tasks.
  2. Professional caregivers – These are trained individuals who are employed by agencies or healthcare providers. A Cincinnati caregiver in this category may assist with personal care, companionship, and light housekeeping.
  3. Independent caregivers – These caregivers work privately, often hired directly by the family. While they offer flexible care, it’s important to ensure proper background checks and qualifications.
  4. Volunteer Caregivers – These are individuals who provide care without pay, usually through community programs, religious organizations, or nonprofits in the Cincinnati area.
What does home care actually cost in Cincinnati, OH?

The cost of home care varies depending on the company you receive services from and the level of care your loved one needs. For example, medical home care services such as wound care or physical therapy are more expensive than non-medical services provided by companies like Assisting Hands. Most families in Cincinnati can expect to pay around $35 per hour for these private duty home care services including dressing, mobility assistance, companionship, housekeeping, and more.

While some agencies charge more for shorter shifts, weekends, nights, or complex care needs, Assisting Hands Cincinnati does not. We want to improve the quality of your life, and that means working to make your experience with our services, including billing, as straightforward as possible.

Here’s what really matters: don’t just look for the cheapest option. Look for an agency that’s licensed, insured, and invests in their caregivers’ background checks, proper supervision, and real training. That’s the difference between someone simply “showing up” and someone who’s truly showing care.

If you’re trying to figure out what’s best for your family, request a free in-home consultation. It’s a no-pressure way to talk things through, get a feel for your options, and build a care plan that makes sense both for your loved one’s needs and your peace of mind.

Are home care and caregivers the same thing?

No, home care and caregivers are related but not the same.

  • Home care refers to a range of services provided in a person’s home to support his or her health, safety, and daily living needs. This can include personal care, companionship, light housekeeping, and sometimes skilled nursing.
  • A caregiver is the individual who delivers those services. The caregiver may help with tasks like bathing, dressing, meal prep, and medication reminders.

In short, home care is the service, and the caregiver is the person providing it.

When should we consider 24-hour senior care?

24-hour senior care should be considered when a loved one can no longer live safely on his or her own due to serious health, mobility, or cognitive issues. This includes conditions like dementia, frequent falls, chronic illnesses, or recovery from surgery. It also becomes necessary when constant supervision, medical monitoring, or full-time assistance with daily tasks like bathing, eating, or taking medication is required. Additionally, if family caregivers are overwhelmed or unable to provide adequate care, 24-hour support ensures the seniors safety and wellbeing.

What happens when you need 24-hour care in Cincinnati?

When 24-hour care is needed in Cincinnati, families typically choose between two options:

  1. Live-in care – One caregiver stays in the home and provides care during the day, with breaks and overnight rest.
  2. Shift-based care – Multiple caregivers work in rotating shifts to provide constant, around-the-clock support ideal for those needing frequent assistance.
What’s the difference between 24-hour home care and live-in care?

Caregivers working in shifts to deliver around-the-clock support that guarantees someone is always awake and aware to help the client is called 24-hour home care. This arrangement works best for people who require overnight assistance or ongoing monitoring. Conversely, live-in care is when a caregiver lives in the clients house, usually working during the day and sleeping at night but always on call for emergencies. Live-in care is ideal for those who require ongoing assistance but not constant overnight attention. Both solutions encourage independence at home but vary in caregiver presence, cost, and degree of overnight help.

How do you ensure the safety of your clients and caregivers?

Ensuring the safety of both clients and caregivers involves several key practices:

  • Thorough background checks – All caregivers undergo criminal background screenings and reference checks before employment.
  • Ongoing training – Caregivers receive initial and continuous training in safety protocols, infection control, emergency response, and client-specific care.
  • Personalized care plans – Each client receives a tailored care plan that addresses health, mobility, and safety needs.
  • Regular supervision – Care visits are monitored, and supervisors conduct routine check-ins to ensure quality and compliance.
  • 24/7 support – Agencies typically offer around-the-clock support lines for emergencies or concerns.
  • Safety equipment & protocols – Use of proper lifting techniques, fall prevention measures, and PPE when needed.
Are your caregivers licensed, bonded, and insured?

Yes, all our caregivers are licensed, bonded, and insured to ensure the highest level of safety and trust. This guarantees our clients receive care from qualified professionals who arent only trained to meet their needs but also protected against potential risks or liabilities. Our caregivers undergo thorough background checks and receive continuous training to maintain their certifications and licenses.

Can I get access to a caregiver at any time, day or night?

Yes, you can access a caregiver at any time, day or night, depending on your care plan. Whether you need 24-hour care or on-demand support, our caregivers are available to provide assistance whenever its required. We offer flexible scheduling and aroundtheclock care options to ensure your needs are met at all times.

"Assisting Hands was contracted to help my Mom recover from a fall, later pancreatic cancer. Everyone was kind and caring from initial call through the end. Deann was an excellent coordinator and while there were many excellent aides, I wanted to call out Jaeyla and Alexis for making a huge positive difference in the last couple of months of my Moms life."
